Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get started?

Install Mirage Host on the Mac you want to stream from, then open Mirage on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro. Both devices need to be on the same network for local streaming, or you can use remote access with Mirage Pro.

Is Mirage free?

Yes. Mirage has a generous free tier that includes up to 1080p streaming, 60Hz, 2 app windows, Apple Pencil support, and end-to-end encryption. Mirage Pro unlocks higher resolutions, 120Hz, Game Mode, remote access, lossless audio, and more.

How much does Mirage Pro cost?

Mirage Pro is $4.99/month or $49/year, with a free trial included. There is also a $119.99 lifetime option. Pay once and keep every Pro feature forever, including future updates.

Does Mirage work without a monitor connected?

Yes. Mirage fully supports headless Macs with no display attached. It creates a virtual display at your client's native resolution, so your Mac doesn't need a physical monitor.

Can I use Mirage with someone else's Mac?

Yes. The Mac owner can share access with you through iCloud sharing, even if you are on a different iCloud account. Your own devices auto-trust via iCloud, and friends and family can be invited separately.

Does Apple Pencil work with Mirage?

Yes. Mirage forwards full pressure, tilt, and orientation data from Apple Pencil, so you can use your iPad as a drawing tablet for apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate (via Sidecar-style workflows), and any other tablet-aware macOS app.

What's the difference between window streaming and desktop streaming?

Window streaming lets you stream individual app windows in isolation, such as Xcode, Figma, or a browser. Desktop streaming mirrors your entire Mac desktop as a virtual display, turning your device into a full second screen.

Can I wake and unlock my Mac remotely?

Yes. With the Mirage Host bootstrap daemon installed, you can wake your Mac over the network and unlock it from the login screen, with no physical access needed. This is a Mirage-exclusive feature.

Does Mirage work over the internet?

Yes, with Mirage Pro. Remote access connects directly to your Mac over the internet using encrypted peer-to-peer connections, with no port forwarding or VPN required.

Is my screen content sent to any servers?

No. Mirage streams directly between your devices. No screen content, audio, or input data ever passes through external servers. All streaming data is encrypted end-to-end with ChaCha20-Poly1305.

What platforms does Mirage support?

Mirage is currently Apple-only. It runs on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and visionOS. The host app (Mirage Host) runs on macOS, and the client app (Mirage) runs on all four Apple platforms. Windows and Linux host support, plus an Apple TV client, are planned.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your Mirage Pro subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings in the App Store. You'll keep Pro features until the end of your current billing period.
